MARIO DIACONO GALLERY presents artist, Michael Geschwer, in a new exhibition Years After, Years Before…
Boston, MA (September 12th, 2025) – The Mario Diacono Gallery is pleased to present Years After, Years Before…, an exhibition of paintings by Michael Geschwer spanning the years 2014-2025.
Mario Diacono Gallery is located in the sub basement of 14 Beacon St, Boston, MA, 02108.
The paintings on display are inspired by the epic poems The Odyssey, by Homer and Metamorphoses, by Ovid. Geschwer’s idea that mythology, dreams, and art operate within the same language system is at the core of his imagery. In his images, Geschwer makes use of classical painting methods and an interior pictorial language, often integrating art history iconography and verbo-visual elements. The resulting mysterious compositions deliver to the viewer the underlying archetypal messages of antiquity.
In the three painting series, depicting scenes from The Odyssey, Geschwer presents us with figures in simultaneous states of repose and chaos. The viewer is compelled to ask–who exactlywas Odysseus? What is the true cost of war? What role, if any, does free will play in a world that subordinates everything to Fate?
In the series Metamorphoses, Dreams, Geschwer creates a private, constructionist language–both contemporary and classical. Its content contains the history of the image, the idea of memory, and reveals how the contemporary mind has these classical images in him already.
The exhibition will be on view at Mario Diacono Gallery from September 12th, 2025 - October 4th, 2025. The gallery will host an opening reception with the artist on Friday, September 12th, from 5-7PM.
